The Introduction of Tongji University Sustainable Development and New-Type Urbanization Think Tank(TJ-SDUTT)

TJ-SDUTT is directly subject to Tongji University, it is the research entity institute. Through the integration of advantages in the many disciplines, such as Sustainable Development, Urban Planning, Economics and Management, Environmental Science, etc., focusing on the important issues of science, policy and governance in the fields of sustainable development and urbanization of national and global scales, TJ-SDUTT then develops academic researches, provides policy consulting, strengths international cooperation, engages talent cultivation and contributes social services. The supporting institutions of TJ-SDUTT mainly include six schools and institutes of Tongji University, namely, School of Economics and Management, School of Architecture and Urban Planning, UNEP-Tongji Institute of Environment for Sustainable Development, Institute of Sustainable Development and Management, Institute of New Rural Development, China Intelligent Urbanization Co-Creation Center for High Density Region.
 
Program Goal
Young Scientists Visiting Program (YSVP) aims to build an international platform of ideas communication for global young scholars in the related fields of sustainable development and urbanization. Through various forms of cooperation and communication, such as academic research, policy consulting, international interaction, talent cultivation and social service, etc., to construct a “Think-Tank” network of sharing information and resources which is mainly consist of global young elites who have outstanding academic potential and strong sense of social responsibility.
 
Program Areas
TJ-SDUTT mainly pays attention to five areas below:
(1)Sustainable Development
(2)New-Type Urbanization
(3)Urban and Regional Governance
(4)Sustainability University
(5)Creative Urban and Smart City
 
Application Notes
Quota: 10-20 in one period of program (usually half or one year)
 
Time: Open call for application at any time, periodically review (usually one month) by program committee
Who can apply? All of young scholars in universities and research institutions globally, mainly including four types of objects below:
(1) Doctoral Candidates (or upper grade doctoral students)
(2) Post -doctoral researchers who are engaging in related academic researches
(3) Doctors who just earned her or his doctoral degree (within one year), and currently do not have available work positions. However, she or he has strong and positive willing to engage into activities referring to the fields of TJ-SDUTT.
(4) Young scholars who are engaging into the works in other universities and institutions of academic researches referring to the five fields of TJ-SDUTT, and she or he is positively willing to develop long-term cooperation with TJ-SDUTT. (In addition, such young scholars also are encouraged to establish cooperation mechanism with TJ-SDUTT in various forms)
 
What materials should be submitted?
(1)Motivation letter
(2)Research Proposal (including expected outcomes)
(3)Curriculum Vitae
(4)Two selected previous research outcomes (such as papers, books, reports, etc)
(5)Two recommendation letters (for the applicants who are doctoral candidates or high grade doctoral students, one of their referees should be her or his doctoral tutor)
(6)All of application materials should be prepared in English or Chinese, and finally put all of materials into one PDF document in order above (except for recommendation letters).
 
How to apply for?
The applicants should submit her or his application materials (except for recommendation letters) with one PDF document (file name should be: YSVP-applicant name) to the email (hchen1@gwdg.de) of program coordinator, Dr.Haiyun Chen. In addition, recommendation letters (scanned PDF sighed by referees, file name: YSVP-RL-applicant name) should directly be submitted by referees to the email (hchen1@gwdg.de) of program coordinator, Dr.Haiyun Chen.
 
Program Funding and Requirements
(1) Each applicant research proposal endorsed by program committee will receive funding support from 20,000 to 100,000 RMB (the funding amount is finally determined by the quality of research proposal and review comments of program committee comprehensively).
(2) Each funded applicant should be engaged in one period of time for relevant scientific research work in TJ-SDUTT, the accumulative time should be not less than 30 working days in the whole program execution period, TJ-SDUTT will provide office room for them.
(3) The program funding has covered all of related costs in the research, also including the costs of transportation, accommodation, insurance and others during working in TJ-SDUTT. In principle, program funding also covers the published costs of program outcomes.
(4) The funded applicants should build cooperative relationship in the process of program implementation, they also should provide relevant lectures and trainings for the Innovation team of students in TJ-SDUTT.
 
What to expect from the program?
(1) To have opportunities to engage into scientific research and cooperation with the scholars in TJ-SDUTT.
(2) To broaden participants’ horizons and interests through research environment of cross national, cross disciplinary and cross cultural.
(3) To share all of information and resources of TJ-SDUTT.
(4) The outstanding research programs can apply for follow-up funding for the sustainability of research program.
(5)TJ-SDUTT will recommend excellent research outcomes to publish or media reports.
(6) The program committee establishes the Award of YSVP. TJ-SDUTT will select out of the three most influential outcomes in each program period, the winners will not only obtain additional funding, but also have the opportunities of full-time employed by TJ-SDUTT , we will provide international competitive salary levels.
